Hand made festive wreath. Strips of red cotton voile fabric are hand tied to a rounded wire frame. The frame has 4 rows of wire before wrapping. When finished the wreath measures 13 inches across and with the fabric it is about 4 inches deep. Three yards of fabric is used to produce this wreath.
Using fabric scraps was common in the Caribbean when I grew up. My mom made patch work sheets and pillow cases from the left over fabric ends we had after making our clothes. I use this technique in my work to add value to the work of the women who have gone before me.
The fabric in this wreath will flatten when you put it away. With a little hand fluffing, the fabric will lift again when ready for use.
